Our
philosophy counteracts the following problem we see in music education
today: Music
is considered one of the creative arts; yet creativity is, for a number of
reasons, often neglected in public school music and private lessons.
Most of us have observed the delight on the faces of toddlers or
young children when they learn to make their own vocal sounds or sounds on
an instrument. But as they mature and begin to learn the necessary skills
for playing and reading music, children usually abandon this free
exploration because most teachers and parents do not often reinforce it,
and it usually is not part of the students’ required studies.
However,
if encouraged to continue to explore and ‘doodle’ musically, many
students will begin to find that they are capable of expressing unique
musical ideas of their own that can be reworked and refined with the help
of their teacher, and of course: technology.
